Astra VXR M32 Reconditioned Gearbox

Like all M32 Gearboxes which wear out the bearings quicker than perhaps they should, this one was built for a customer in South Wales. Complete strip down on the bench revealed that in addition to the bearing set being worn, the 1-2 Hub and 2nd Gear was also showing heavy wear and would have been likely to crunch or jump out of gear so that was also replaced with new parts.

The big question of upgrading your VXR Gearbox?

Yes, you can upgrade the top case to accommodate bigger bearings! Will it stop the failure? The answer is no, I have just replaced bearings on a M32 that had the bigger bearings, it was out of a late Astra [not VXR] and it had only done 45k Miles. In the case of the later, it wore out the pinion bearings first so it shifted the load point or wear point to the next weakest area.
