Porsche 911 gearbox repair

Porsche 911 [930] 4-speed [1988] gearbox overhaul [intermediate] although the gearbox may be earlier

It was sent us to as it had no reverse gear, it wasn’t the external linkage at fault but an internal issue. We found the reverse lever had snapped off inside the gearbox, the broken parts had made their way to the lowest point of the gearbox and settled in the diff housing, luckily they had not made contact with other components. There is no shortcutting the cost of the job as the majority of the bearings [6/8] need to be genuine Porsche. You can purchase the non-OE bearings but the cages melt and would cause major damage.

Intermediate overhaul £2500 + vat ex-fitting & shipping [all bearings and seals]

Major overhaul £5000 + vat  [as above and includes new dog packs synchros and outer hubs]

Normal issues for this type of gearbox are synchro issues, it can be any one of the forward gears. Reverse gear is straight cut and uses no synchro, it relies entirely on a correctly operating clutch and a little patience.
