This presented with binding up when on full lock in reverse or forward it feels like there is mechanical snagging and will bang from binding when it lets go, the remedy is to replace the pump & filter clean the plates and make sure it scrupulously cleaned inside

The motors do wear down the brushes and it’s worth checking the OHMs reading. Well worth changing the oil every 30k , as the filters are very fine and block fairly easily.
