Mitsubishi L200 6-speed 3rd gear problems.

[Known issue at low mileage]

This gearbox was brought to us by the main dealer, well within the manufacturer warranty so it’s fair to say low mileage. Jumps out of 3rd gear immediately on selection. Having had the benefit of going through this gearbox it’s clear as to the reason why this happens. The dogs were excessively worn on 3rd and the outer hub was also worn , there is also another condition when the detent is the problem. The kits are only available to the main dealers , we would have to purchase the items as separate parts from the dealers so its expensive to put right outside of the warranty. In any case the vehicle should not be driven until the issue is fixed as the gearbox is defective.

The fix for this gearbox is complete replacement of 3rd gear the hub & fork assembly and few other minor components. In this case, it was a comprehensive repair [OE] kit supplied by the main agent.
